Preamble: The Network for Education and Multidisciplinary Research Africa is an inter-institutional network of academics, researchers, and practitioners working towards strengthening and deepening multidisciplinary research for and about Africa. Although based in Uganda, the network has membership from across Africa and beyond. The mission of the network is “To demystify the issues around doing academic research, develop insights across a wide array of disciplines, share ideas and develop networks in the process of providing solutions to societal problems through research”. This is executed under 3 strategic actions i.e., (1) Training & mentorship (2) Conducting research projects and dissemination of research products (3) Mobilisation and advocacy for networking and collaboration.
For the last 5 years, the network has been heavily involved in research capacity building initiatives including research skills training and a mentorship programme for PhD students & early career researchers. NEMRA has also been involved in various mobilisation and advocacy initiatives to encourage inter-university networking around research and involvement of stakeholders beyond academia such as government agencies and the private sector.
This year, 2024, NEMRA is holding its inaugural annual academic conference in line with strategic action number 2. The theme of the conference is “Develop Research for policy formulation and community development”. NEMRA believes in research for societal transformation and therefore intends to provide this space for researchers to show case how their work is influencing policy and community development.
Why NEMRA conference?
For the last 5 years, NEMRA has provided a platform for inter-university research-related collaboration, networking and mutual support among academic researchers, postgraduate students and practitioners. We believe that in the last five years with a lot of research capacity building, more research has been done. This is time for postgraduate research students, early career researches, senior academics and practitioners to present, share, and discuss their latest research findings, innovations, and ideas within a specific academic or professional field as NEMRA with the focus on strengthening and deepening multidisciplinary research in Africa The conference will offer opportunities for networking and collaboration where researchers will connect with peers, experts, and potential collaborators. This will foster the exchange of ideas and the formation of new partnerships and policy dialogues.
